Buccaneers fire offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich after four seasons

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have fired offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich after four seasons with the team, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday morning.

Leftwich joined the Bucs as offensive coordinator in 2019 following the hiring of head coach Bruce Arians, under whom Leftwich began his coaching career in Arizona.

Tampa Bay's offense ranked third in both scoring and points during his first year at the helm, a season before Tom Brady signed with the Buccaneers, and Leftwich engineered two more top-five scoring seasons with Brady after that. That offensive efficiency plummeted in 2022, however, after the departure of Arians as head coach. Tampa Bay finished 15th in yards and 25th in points, and the Buccaneers didn't score their first points in a listless 31-14 wild-card loss against the Cowboys on Monday until the final play of the third quarter.

The Buccaneers will now be looking for a new offensive play-caller as they enter an offseason with equal uncertainty at the quarterback position.

Around the NFL will have more shortly.
